Class Descriptions
Beginner's Class (4 weeks)
Students will learn basic yoga poses, a
routine to use as home practice, stretches, relaxation/breathing techniques,
and flows (vinyasa). Emphasis is on alignment and practicing safely at
one's own pace. At the end of this class, students may choose tomove
to experienced beginner's or continue in the beginner's class. A basic
level of fitness is desired. Mats, blocks, belts and blankets are provided.
You may also bring your own.
Experienced Beginner's Class (5 weeks
or 8 weeks)
Choose
a 60-minute morning class for five weeks or a 90-minute evening class
for eight weeks. In both, students will learn new poses, breathing techniques,
and a bit of yogic philosophy while increasing flexibility, strength,
balance and concentration through a flowing (vinyasa) style of yoga.
Poses are cued so students practice at their own level. A basic level
of fitness is desired.
Five Tibetans (3 weeks)
The
Five Tibetans, also known as the Five Rites, are a yoga-like series
of highly-energizing postures and exercises. The Five Tibetans take
a minimum of time, yet can dramatically increase physical strength
and mental activity. Even newcomers to the practice will experience
the Five Tibetans' energizing power. Regular practice relieves muscular
tension and nervous stress, improves respiration and digestion, and
leads to relaxation and well-being. A modified series will also be
taught for those who are not physically ready. Participants will be
given a handout to facilitate an at-home practice. Students will learn
the series and modifications at the two-hour session, and will perfect
the routine at the two 30-minute sessions to be able to practice at
home with confidence. The Five Tibetans are practiced on a mat on the
floor - bring a mat.
Modified Yoga for Every Body (5 weeks)
This
class modifies yoga poses so that those with physical issues such as
joint replacement, arthritis, lack of physical conditioning, fibromyalgia,
osteoporosis and overweight can practice safely, successfully and effectively.
Students may practice fromo a chair or a mat.
